JUSSI AWARDS 2024 NOMINEES SELECTED
Jussi Gala will be hosted by Gogi Mavromichalis.
The Jussi nominees for 2024 cinema films have been selected at a meeting of the Filmiaura jury of experts. The 2024 film year was marked by concerns about the future of the industry, but as in previous years, gladly there was diversity in selections.
There are two changes to the acting categories this year. The Ensemble of the Year Award is given to an ensemble cast, and the Breakthrough Role of the Year Award is given to an actor who is appearing on screen for the first time or who has reached a new level in his or her acting career. The Visual Effects of the Year will also be awarded for the first time.
24 feature films and 13 documentaries that met the Jussi criteria premiered on cinema screens. 16 different screen films and three short films received Jussi nominations.

The Jussi nominees are selected each year by a jury of professional experts in cooperation with the Filmiaura Board. This year, the jury included producer Mika Ritalahti, director Tia Kouvo, screenwriter Kirsikka Saari, actors Pirjo Lonka and Teijo Eloranta, cinematographer Joonas Pulkkanen, professor of film editing Harri Ylönen, composer Pessi Levanto, sound designer Lotta Mäki, set designer Antti Nikkinen, costume designer Riitta-Maria Vehman, make-up designer Salla Yli-Luopa, VFX designer Sami Haartemo. From the Filmiaura Board of Directors, the jury consisted of Emma Ilves (chair), Hannele Marjavaara, Fabian Munsterhjelm, Susanna Enäsuo and Leena Virtanen. Antti Nikkinen, Fabian Munsterhjelm, Joonas Pulkkanen and Harri Ylönen did not participate in the jury for the selection of the short film. Munsterhjelm did not participate in the selection of the ensemble and Eloranta did not participate in the selection of the documentary. Board members Samppa Batal and Riina Liukkonen did not participate in the jury's work.
The Jussi statues will be awarded by the Filmiaura association of film professionals and the final winners will be chosen by the Filmiaura members through a closed ballot and the public through an online vote. The awards will be presented at the Jussi Gala on Friday 21 March 2025, hosted this year by Gogi Mavromichalis, better known as Gogi, and will be broadcast live as usual from the Helsinki Cable Factory's Merikaapeli Hall on MTV3 channel and MTV Katsomo.
The public will again be able to choose their favourite film, which will receive a certificate of honour. The voting for the audience's favourite film is organized by Finnkino, one of the main partners of the Jussi Gala. The Jussi Gala will also award the Nordisk Film Prize worth 20 000 euros. This year's Jussi Gala partners are Nespresso, Western Finland Film Commission, Business Turku, Film Tampere and the City of Tampere, Lähitaksi and MBH Breweries.
Established in 1944, the Jussi Prize is believed to be the oldest film prize in Europe. Awards are given in 17 different categories: film of the year, director, four acting awards, screenplay, cinematography, film score, editing, sound design, set design, costume design, make-up design, visual effects, documentary and short film.
