Flowers of Evil
Flowers of Evil by Antti J. Jokinen will premiere on 30 September 2016.
Synopsis
Flowers of Evil is a topical, gritty story of a family struggling with the pressures of suburban restlessness, set to street music. The central character of the film is 14-year-old Sipe, whose touching relationship with his brother and parents forms the core of the story. Threats bubble under the surface until the restlessness erupts into violence and riots – with fatal consequences.
About the film
Antti J. Jokinen commented on the festival section of Pahan Kukkie: "I am particularly pleased that the world is interested in Finland's social situation. One marginalised generation is struggling to survive and another is on its way. It is a difficult situation and definitely an important subject for a filmmaker. So the riots will come to Finland in September at the latest, when the film premieres!"
He continues, "To be in an A-list festival now is particularly gratifying because everyone in my crew was making a film for the first time. I chose them directly from school or the suburbs and only a few of the actors had previous experience. A tough bunch."
