Serena Rapper receives a strange prophecy that a genius has been reincarnated in her immediate circle. When Serena finds Ricky's drawing, she is sure that Ricky is Vincent van Gogh reincarnated, because Ricky uses colours with verve and has red hair. Elvi too is excited by the idea in the hope of success. Serena decides to present Ricky's drawing to the director of the art museum, who unexpectedly offers to take Ricky to her home to study drawing. When Ricky is not heard back from the art museum director, Nelly and Lennart's suspicions are aroused. At the same time, a strange coincidence occurs: a sketch of a van Gogh painting is found in Finland! An exciting series of events unfolds, taking Ricky, then Nelly and Lennart to a villa hosted by a mysterious couple. But why are Serena and Elvi suspected of being art forgers? Luckily, the art museum's caretaker, Hercules Poironen, is a keen amateur detective and helps Ricky and Nelly solve the mystery.

The writers' word by Sinikka and Tiina Nopola: Ricky Rapper and The Fake Vincent

The eighth Rapper film is based on our novel Ricky Rapper and The Fake Vincent (2017). It is both a thriller comedy and a parody of art snobbery. Ricky's aunt Serena gets it into her head that Ricky is Vincent van Gogh reincarnated, because Ricky uses colours with panache and has red hair. Art forgers are buzzing around, but Serena believes she has got to know the "real" art world.
When Ricky's art attracts unexpected admirers, Ricky's best friend Nelly and downstairs neighbour Lennart Lindberg begin to suspect a hoax. Nelly and Lennart end up as detectives, as does the art museum's caretaker Herkules Poironen.
Aunt Elvi gets caught up in Serena's fantasy of Ricky as a painter. For once, Elvi forgets about freezing: "Kiasma, Moma and Kukkenhaim, I've got the art bug!"
It was fun to go back to making a film with familiar collaborators. This is already the fifth Rapper film with music composed by Iiro Rantala and produced by Rimbo Salomaa. When we heard that Maria Sid would be directing the film, we shouted "Yes!".
