Synopsis

Jussi Vares is caught in the grip of a smitten Laila, and that doesn't make it any easier to solve the murders.

Turku in summer. Private detective Jussi Vares (Antti Reini) earns his living with trivial shadowing cases. The man's life is without direction. In the middle of his dreary everyday life, however, there is a book launch party of the novelist Luusalmi (Eppu Salminen). On his way home, Vares gets a job offer, gets into a street fight and almost gets killed defending his friend Antidote (Jasper Pääkkönen).

Things are also starting to happen with women. Vares ends up investigating the murder of Asta's (Outi Mäenpää) daughter Kerttu (Misa Lommi), who was stabbed to death in the spring, and ends up in bed with Asta's sister, the married, passionate Laila (Anu Sinisalo). Laila takes Vares into her firmly controlling grip and Vares soon realizes that the murderer must have been someone she knew closely. The case is made even messier by the disappearance of Kerttu's best friend Pirkko a year earlier. Vares soon begins to suspect that Pirkko has also been the victim of a homicide.
