Synopsis

Off the map is an action-packed road movie about a childless and neglected neighbour girl's journey to her grandmother's house. The journey from Helsinki to Kainuu brings together three strong women from different generations who find each other and solutions to their problems in the wilderness of Kainuu.

When Katri, a thirty-year-old real estate agent living in Helsinki, learns that her husband Mikko has been living a double life with the Estonian Sirle, she decides to take revenge, taking with her the nest egg Mikko has acquired through obscure means and fleeing to the faraway foreign land of her dreams.

Unbeknownst to her, Anna, a neglected 8-year-old girl from a neighbour, has also got into the car. Anna has also taken something that doesn't belong to her. Anna makes sure Katri can't get rid of the girl, and Katri has to change her plans. Taking the unpredictable child to her grandmother in Kainuu, Katri finds herself in a zone of real discomfort. Her journey is further complicated by the pursuing Mikko and Anna's criminal stepfather Tero, as well as the reluctantly charming Johannes, a flea market owner, and Mikko's new wife Sirle.

Although the trip doesn't go at all as planned, Katri and Anna find something they didn't know they needed until they were about to lose it: each other.
