The Tough Ones 2, about a new generation of The Tough Ones, will premiere on Wednesday 19 February. Before that, on Monday 10 and Tuesday 11 February, The Tough Ones, which was released in 1999 and was a hit with audiences and critics alike, attracting more than 330 000 admissions, will have a new theatrical release after more than 25 years. Both films were directed by Aleksi Mäkelä.

"Audiences now have a great opportunity to revisit their The Tough Ones memories by watching the iconic The Tough Ones in a stunning cinema setting, and then immerse themselves in the new The Tough Ones 2", comments Markus Selin, producer of the films.

Thanks to the theatrical release, the first The Tough Ones will also be available to a new generation. "The Tough Ones will stand the test of time. Many viewers will know the lines of this cult film about the South Ostrobothnian mental landscape by heart. The film is now available as a cinema experience for a generation of the 21st century that was not even born when it was first shown on the big screens," Selin continues.

The Tough Ones and The Tough Ones 2 are independent films. The Tough Ones tells the story of Jussi Murikka and Antti Karhu, a pair of tough, South Ostrobothnian knife-junkies from the 1990s who return to South Ostrobothnia after serving five years in prison. The Tough Ones 2, on the other hand, is a film about modern-day tough ones, with a glimmer of Antti Isotalo and Rannanjärvi.

The Tough Ones 2 (2025) stars Joel Hirvonen (Konsta), Samuli Edelmann (Jussi Murikka), Severi Saarinen (Jalo), Sari Havas (Sisko), Linda Wiklund (Terhi), Saaga Salo (Saara) and Ilkka Heiskanen (Jehu). The script was written by Petja Lähde. The film is produced by Hanna Virolainen, Markus Selin and Jukka Helle. The film is distributed by Nordisk Film.
