The 20 years of the history of Solar Films, The Legend of Moving Pictures, is a collection of articles about the company that has produced the three most profitable domestic movies of all times. The book, edited by Rampe Toivonen, is worthy of its subject: it contains information, analyses and data – but above all, shamelessly entertaining memories and anecdotes – that are not educational, not at all.
The book is a cornucopia that the reader can enjoy, with a smile on his face. All work and no play makes Solar employee a dull boy. True enough; they have played hard, to reward their hard work. You don’t hear very much about the working part – but it’s all listed here.
THE LEGEND OF MOVING PICTURES MAKES YOU WANT TO HEAR MORE. A LOT HAS BEEN TOLD, OBVIOUSLY QUITE A BIT IS STILL UNTOLD.
“THE LEGEND OF MOVING PICTURES is a piece of writing where the discourse crosses the line of postmodern deterritorialization – especially as a Deleuzean mycelium – and via the transgression of its subjects it raises to singularity, domininated superficially by “word”. And not only in Lacanian way, but as a lost Oedipian castration, and above all, as the unity of attributes. Despite that, you can feel the overall, beautiful trochee, even in syncope. One of the books of the season! Absolutely! Also, the matinée with its potpourris, created and organized to accompany the publication, is one of the best cultural concepts of our time. Jukka Kajava would be proud; the book itself will find its place in the hands of Putte Wilhelmsson and the most critical audiences. Thank you for the subjects; Markus Selin, Jukka Helle, Jasper Pääkkönen, Antti J. Jokinen, Rampe Toivonen and the rest of the wordsmiths…”
