The production design of “THE MIDWIFE”

The production designer of “The Midwife”, Kari Kankaanpää turned the visions of the director Antti J. Jokinen into conceptual drawings. The movie was shot mostly in Lithuania, where the sets were built, based on blueprints and these drawings. The sets included the Titovka labour camp, the Parkkina harbour, Dead Man’s Cabin and Björne’s shop – all those places in the story are located in Lapland. Not all the concept art is seen in the finished movie; some were left out, some were updated with new versions, as the production went forward. The movie premieres in Finland 4.9.2015.
