Flowers of Evil won the prize for the best direction at the Shanghai International Film Festival main competition series. The A-listed Shanghai Festival is the 5th most remarkable film festival in the world and the biggest in Asia. The name of the price is Golden Goblet. The Solar Films movie is produced by Markus Selin, Jukka Helle, Ari Tolppanen and Mikko Leino.
Jokinen comments after the victory: “Although the award is from the artistic direction, I feel that winning in a festival of this magnitude, in a competition this tough, the award is from the choosing the topic. The realism depicting the conditions in Finland is interesting, internationally and that means more than one man’s performance. Having discussed with the members and directors of the jury, I found out that they feel that we have found a new cinematic angle to the Finnish society.”
Jokinen underlines: “What makes this very special that most of the crew and cast members were first-timers, counting out a few actors.”
The Midwife, also directed by Jokinen, was nominated the last year at the same festival where Krista Kosonen won the prize for the best actress in a leading role.
Antti Jokinen and Markus Selin attended the festival, together with Juno, Mikael Gabriel and Viljami Nojonen.
A street-credible gang drama, Flowers of Evil, will premiere in September 2016. The movie, written by Jokinen, is a story of young people growing up in the suburbs and will feature a cast including the rap artist Juno, Viljami Nojonen, Diana Tenkorang, Eero Aho, Alma Pöysti, the rap artist Mikael Gabriel, Krista Kosonen and Tommi Korpela. The soundtrack will feature music from the legendary British punk band The Exploited. The theme song is written by Paleface. The movie is distributed by Future Film.
