An ordinary boy in an unordinary situation – a movie about the teenager comet singer Robin (14) in movie theaters in Finland on Wednesday 5th of December 2015

An ordinary boy in an unordinary situation.

The 82 minutes long movie, a Solar Films production, will be directed by Inari Niemi and produced by Oskari Huttu, Jukka Helle and Markus Selin. Inari Niemi (born 1978) has directed several short films and has been the assistant director in The Garbage Can Prince, directed by her father Raimo O. Niemi.

Frontside Ollie, performed by Robin Packalen (born 24th of August 1998), was published in January and it became the most downloaded song in iTunes in Finland in the next 24 hours. And, like the old saying goes, the rest is history.

Robin is a movie about an ordinary schoolboy in an unordinary situation: a feature film, a book, two albums, four singles, four music videos and dozens of wild gigs – all during the same year!

How does it feel to perform in front of thousands of fans, who know the lyrics to every song? How does it feel when the girls are screaming your name? How dows it feel when you get to do what you always wanted to do?

The movie follows the sold-out summer tour of Robin and the hectic recording sessions of the new album. Robin is more and more taking part in the record making. He is interested in writing the songs and enjoys all the interesting things and new challenges in front of him.

The movie shows us a courageous young man, with a sense of humour. The charismatic, laid-back performer is familiar to many of us – but the most interesting parts happen outside the performances and interviews; what is Robin like when he is among friends, unseen from the observers? The movie tells us, what it is like to be the boy to whom all this is happening.

Inari Niemi, the director, says: “Alhough it is a phenomenon unseen in Finland before, the more interesting topic to the moviemakers is Robin himself. The documentary follows the phase when he becomes a young man who can take control of his life and his music in a completely new way.”

According to Robin, making the film was very cool. “Of course, it’s a bit funny to be a topic of a movie, being this young. But mostly I wasn’t even aware of the fact that we’re shooting a movie. I guess I got used to the cameras”, says Robin.

Robin’s first album Koodi was published in February 2012 and it sold triple platinum in one day. In June Robin became the youngest Finnish artist ever to surpass the magical number of 100 000 sold albums. Universal Music will publish Robin’s new album Chillaa on Friday October 5th. The ticket sales to the “Robin Day” in Hartwall Arena will commence on the same day and the book “The Unbelievable Story of Robin” will be published the same day.
