MAN AND A BABY WAS CHOSEN AS BEST NORDIC FEATURE 2017 AT THE NORDIC INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL IN NEW YORK

The producer of the movie Markus Selin, the director Marja Pyykkö and the leading actor Petteri Summanen all attended the ceremony last weekend in New York. The awarded movie is produced by Solar Films and distributed by Nordisk Film.

The Festival Jury commented Man and a Baby as follows: “Told with dark humor and a sense of melancholy, the story cleverly avoids all traps and clichés, and creates a world of love and pain.”

Comments director Pyykkö: “This is a great honor! We are all surprised and overwhelmed about this unexpected victory.” Producer Selin adds: “Wonderful. This is a fantastic acknowledgement for the whole cast and crew, especially considering our domestic distribution dispute. It is great that the critics and the audiences have found the movie and appreciate it. There is no way we can thank the moviegoers enough for taking the trouble to see this film.”

The dispute Selin is referring to is a stalemate between Solar Films, Nordisk Film and Finnkino, the leading movie theater chain in Finland. Because of the differences of opinion, the movie can’t be seen in any Finnkino cinemas in the whole Finland.
