The Grump has become the second most watched movie in Finland in the last 25 years. The movie premiered in September 2014 and has now been in theatrical release for 19 weeks. The box office of The Grump, directed by Dome Karukoski, is now 470 353 and it has passed the popular film Matti (Hell is for Heroes). The most watched movie of the era 1990-2015 is Bad Boys, also produced by Solar Films, which drew an audience of 614 628 spectators to theaters. Number three is Matti, another Solar Films production, with an box office of 463 186.
The Grump is the most watched movie in Finland in 2014. Solar Films holds the top three places in the last 25 years.
The screening rights of The Grump have been sold to Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Canada, Portugal, Estonia, Lithuania and Turkey. The other territories will be announced separately.
The Grump is a nominee for the Finnish Film Award in three categories; best movie, Dome Karukoski for best direction and Antti Litja for the best actor in a leading role.
